Even people who have low mobility can have the pleasure of driving a scooter and an electric scooter helps to satisfy their needs. An electric scooter or mobility scooter is a battery operated scooter that can be driven by any person who finds it difficult to walk or stand for a long time.

Electric scooters can be used either for indoor use, outdoor use or for both. Generally, electric scooters have three or four wheels and since they are battery operated, they do not cause any environmental pollution. The electric scooter has a pair of batteries that need to be recharged on a regular basis which depends upon the time and distance traveled and also the type of battery being used.

Electric scooters are so designed that they are easy to use and are equipped with brake systems that are well advanced, thus making the stopping of scooters quite easy. Further more, the scooters also have a parking brake so that they do not roll off while they are parked.

Depending upon the needs of the user, the electric scooters can be classified as foldable electric scooters, three wheeled electric scooters and four wheeled electric scooters. As the name implies, the foldable type can be easily folded and transported any time and is suitable for those who travel frequently and are ideal for long trips. The three wheeled electric scooters are quite easy to use both indoors and outdoors and are comfortable and durable. The seats are sturdier than portable models and provide ample leg room than any other model. The main convenience is that they can be steered to turn tight corners.

The four wheeled electric scooters are mainly intended for outdoor purposes and are preferred when maximum stability is needed to support the three wheeled structure. Such scooters can be used in rugged terrains and are more stable than three wheeled scooters. Evidently, these types of scooters have wider base and bigger tires and can travel as faster as ten miles per hour. There are heavy duty electric scooters too, for those who are more than 350 pounds.

Electric scooters usually need a key to function but however, they can be used in free wheel mode even without the use of keys .Hence, even when the batteries are being charged, the scooters can be stored and transported easily.

To sum up, the electric scooters have the advantage of being environment friendly, they do not need any physical effort as they are operated on battery and offer a lot of much needed confidence in people who have less mobility and gives them the regained independence of traveling freely on the streets. Such people need not depend on other’s assistance to travel even uphill, which would give them great satisfaction.

There is no doubt that an electric scooter can get you someplace, but the issue of how fast it can go is something that deserves discussion.

People often keep this false step that because electric scooters were designed primarily for either the elderly and the handicapped, it cannot pick up speed. This is where they are wrong.

While electric scooters are not as fast as gas powered scooters, they are not misplaced influence the clout ingredient. Notoriety fact, some electric scooter models can be as fast as a little over ten miles per hour. So if you’re thinking of organizing an electric scooter race, you won’t be embarrassed.

Seeing the consideration of an electric scooter is fairly new, not many people accept it considering a certain mode of transportation. Most of us are still stuck with the wheelchair concept so we don’t really note electric scooters because subject supplementary but an improved version of a wheelchair in a more chic and hip articulation. It’s about time to impart the world that electric scooters are more than what the majority perceives of them.

The speed of electric scooters and their overall performance should never betoken underestimated. Given the heavy traffic we are experiencing nowadays, which really are not showing signs of relenting anytime soon, we might find that owning an electric scooter and going to task with it is one of the most useful decisions we leave ever make.

Electric scooters are not just considering those with limited mobility. Like a perfectly healthy circumstance can take advantage of an electric scooter. In addition, the fact that electric scooters no longer need antic to go fast is comforting, especially at a time of skyrocketing oil also fuel prices. And while material does hike up our electricity bills, most people see that as a small price to stipend for huge stab electric scooters bring in.

Electric scooters are a very practical buy. In fact, they might even be more practical than buying a car. Corporeal doesn’t protect you from the rain, though. But if you’re looking to get somewhere fast, you can always rely on an electric scooter to serve its racket.

Just say the words “electric scooter” and depending on your age, a definite image comes to mind. This no doubt is due to the many different types of electric scooters available in the market today.

The fist type of electrically powered scooter is the street version of a powered skateboard. These were a metal platform with a folding handle and two inline skate wheels. These scooters were all the rage just a few years ago and as the craze started slowing down, the scooter makers redefined the toy into a transportation vehicle. Some designs even look like a mini-bike in style. These electric scooters are marketed to the affluent teen as a unique and fun way to get around. They’re available both with electric and a small gasoline driven motor. Check with local authorities regarding the use of these little mini bike scooters. Some are not allowed on the road and cannot legally be ridden on the sidewalk making them less than attractive as a transportation device.

The next type of electric scooter is designed as a get around town mini motorcycle – moped. These units are marketed to 20 somethings and anyone else who needs to make quick short trips and don’t want the worry or hassle of driving a car. These are perfect for city travel where grid-lock is common. Although not a full sized motorcycle, many or these units will hold 2 people and have accessories like saddle bags to carry groceries and other purchases.

This little units have a long battery life and can get to speeds up to about 30 miles per hour with good acceleration. Depending on the number of starts and stops, these electric mopeds can go about 30 miles before needed recharging. This is usually more than enough to get back and forth to the store several times without a problem. Although most are considered street legal, check to make certain any electric scooter you purchase of this type has been approved by the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and if in Europe, the European Union Transportation Agency.

The final type of electrically powered scooter is marketed toward the adult and senior market. These are typically a wheelchair like device that allows for greater mobility for older people or those with limited motor abilities. These scooters are designed to be used both indoors and out with tight cornering and a long battery life. These units have a top speed of under 5 miles and hour but can go 20-30 miles on a charge. It’s a mobility device more than a distance transportation vehicle.

All three types of electric motor scooters have one thing in common and that’s the need for constant charging. This is where the weakness of electrically powered anything really comes into play. If a limited mobility scooter runs out of power, it may not be such a big deal as they’re typically used only for short trips away from home and around the house.

If however, you find yourself several miles from home on a motorcycle type electric scooter, this can be a problem. With no power and your recent purchases in hand, the return trip home might be long and difficult pushing your scooter.

In the end, the electric scooter industry is alive and well providing products that fit a growing and diverse market.

My cousin’s house is about a mile down the street from mine and lot’s of the time when we hang out we have a couple of beers. My son just got a new electric scooter and I was wondering if I could ride that and be safe? I have a feeling the answer is no.

P.S. Scooters are cool.
About the public intoxication. What if I wasn’t drunk but just had a couple of beers. I have a drivers license and 2 cars but I would ride the scooter if I was over the limit.
Jake your calling me a girl? You may see my scooter parked outside your mom’s house tomorrow night. Don’t worry ill take good care of her.
Grumpy old man you say you WALK a 6 minute mile???? Have you ever seen the Comcast commercial when the put the high speed on the speed walker with the treadmill? That must be you. Do you people not understand my question. I have a couple of beers at my cousin’s house and would rather not drive home. Would it be LEGAL to ride the scooter. I am not talking about being wasted but just one beer over the limit and playing it safe.

A 6 minute mile is 10 miles per hour. That is a damn good pace for an old man, especially walking.
