When buying electric scooter parts, make sure they’re compatible with your scooter. Many customers make a mistake of buying the wrong parts for their scooters.

Popular electric scooter parts are:

- Accessories – Batteries – Chains – Chargers – Controllers – Throttles

Accessories

There are different kinds of accessories available. A popular choice for a scooter’s bag is a large multi-compartment bag than can be placed onto the rear cargo rack. A good bag would be made of a cloth that is high resistant to abrasions, tears and scuffs. Twin Velcro straps should hold the bag securely onto the seat rail or post.

You can also choose a basket to be placed in front. Good baskets would be those that fold out of the way when they’re no longer in use. Steel construction is the best with thick enamel finish.

You should have a safety warning bell for your scooter. Some bells are made with compasses too. These bells fit all electric scooter and bicycle handlebars. Bells that have a pleasant sound and are audible are advisable.

A bike motor kit includes self-contained removable power unit, a mounting rack and mounting hardware. You can also buy this kit in local motorcycle stores.

A good headlight would have side light markers that provide additional illumination in the right and left side of the scooter. This is for visibility during nighttime.

Your helmet should cover the back of your head to protect it from backward falls. It should have an air-gulping front, top and back holes. There should be a thick shock absorbent lining inside the helmet that can be easily removed and replaced for cleaning purposes. Most importantly, helmets should be certified by the ASTM F1447 helmet standards or any country’s helmet standards.

Even though some states don’t require scooter drivers to wear helmets, it is still recommended to wear a helmet no matter how short the distance is.

Additional mirrors are also available as extra electric scooter parts. You can choose a round shaped mirror that is made of chrome plated steel, glass and rubber construction. There should be a safety reflector at the back of the mirror.

Batteries

There is a different range of batteries available for electric scooters. If you know the voltage, dimensions or amp hours, you will be able to choose what battery should you require.

Chains

The #25 chain is the most commonly used for electric scooters. This chain has a ” spacing between each chain link and is ” wide.

Chain Breakers

Chain breakers don’t break the chain despite what they’re called. Their function is to remove the pins that hold the chain links together. Master links are used to connect chains together in a continuous solid loop.

Chargers

Intellect Charger – An “Intellect Charger” works with electric scooters and bikes that have a 12 Volt battery or two 6 Volt batteries.

Controllers

There are speed controllers for Chinese-made electric scooters. This part helps control the speed of your scooter from full stop to full forward.

Throttles

The Hall Effect Throttle is the most common type that is used on electric scooters. They work on Chinese-made electric scooters and are sometimes called accelerators, twist bar, speed bar, turn throttle, speed control or derailleur.

Another type of throttle is the on / off throttle. This is used for medium size electric scooters.

5k Ohm Throttles are for high-end and older model electric scooters.

I want to buy an electric (non mobility scooter) and use it within my town in New Jersey however I am wondering something What is the speed limit a person with an electric scooter can go before it becomes illegal and does it really require a moped / motorcycle license even if it goes 19 mph?

Are you confined to your bed, chair or even your home because of mobility limitations?  Then an electric mobility scooter may just be the solution you are looking for.  These scooters have literally revolutionized mobility for people with walking limitations.

The electric mobility scooter is much more versatile than the electric wheelchair.  Most scooter models come equipped with the three wheel design.  The heavy duty model comes with five wheels to increase stability and the amount of rider weight it can carry.  The scooters are also available with either rear drive or front drive depending on the model you choose.  The narrow rear wheel width and tight turning radius allow the driver to maneuver easily through hallways and doorways to travel from room to room.

The mobility scooter has a seat with 360 degrees of rotation making it simple to drive up to a table or desk.  This also allows for more movement of your legs and feet which helps circulation.  The seat can be locked in any position to make transferring easy and safe.  If you have some upper body strength and can sit with little support, the electric scooter encourages you to lift your arms and hands to driving position which helps with breathing and posture.

Electric mobility scooters are safe.  They are equipped generally with electromagnetic brakes with a manual release.  The drive system on Amigo scooters is sealed and lifetime-lubricated with no belts or chains and easy maintenance.  Electrical systems come with airline-safe sealed batteries that are rechargeable.  Scooter speed varies with the model of scooter but is in the range of 0 – 5 mph.  The unit weight also varies by models and accessories.   That range is from 75# – 245#.  To transport your electric mobility scooter, Amigo has a Lift-It that makes for a simple solution.  It is easily transferred from vehicle to vehicle and makes transporting your scooter convenient for all ages.

Electric mobility scooters are giving freedom and independence back to seniors and people with walking limitations.  Getting yourself a drink of water, taking a pet for a walk, even getting the mail or newspaper, simple tasks we take for granted, are now possible again because of the electric scooter.  Travel in and around the home, gated communities and shopping malls has returned the senior and those with a handicap to active independent mobility and put a smile back on their face!

A scooter, which is considered lightweight, and yet sturdy, is the Buzzaround scooter. This is a type of scooter, which is a bit new on the market. The Buzzaround is manufactured by Golden Technologies manufactures. Some people also call it the Golden Buzzaround.

Gasoline power scooters, being around for a longer period have grown more familiar to mass; however, when it’s an electric scooter in question, often the owners find themselves flabbergasted when their little pets grow disobedient. Little do they realize that certain little measures can get rid of the problems that cause botheration every now and then. Read on to find out more…

What should be done?

To keep an electric scooter up an running:

One should keep the tires inflated properly since smaller tires lose air pressure fast. This may result in the tube rotating inside the tire during both braking and acceleration; as a result, the valve stem may get destroyed. Also, this shall require the motor to work harder resulting in burnt armatures or brushes.

The battery must be charged frequently and after it returns to the room temperature. Heat damages batteries, hence, cooling it is recommended before charging.

Tension on the drive belt/chain must match the manufacturer’s specification. Looseness causes slippage and shortens the life of the chain/belt, therefore, move the rear tire forward or backward to leave approximately one-half to one-quarter inch gap while pressing against the middle of the span. A center position is also much required; if it does not ride against the side of the belt hubs on the motor or rear tire, it may jump up on the edge and can lock the wheel.

Throttle and brake linkages require light (or right) lubrication to prevent binding.

It’s foolish to ride electric scooters through wet surfaces; the water or mud can damage the electrical components.

To get rid of minor problems like:

Interrupted power: It can be a loose or broken connection or a battery with low charge. The second case is not that troublesome; however, if it’s a broken connection, then expose the wiring from the top and check for the broken linkage; it can also be a failed controller box or a malfunctioning master switch. Except for the controller box, the rest should be made subject to replacement. Apart from the above-mentioned points, it can also be that the wires behind fuse assembly are subjected to a loose connection to the battery.

It is important to know all you can pertaining to power-operated vehicles before you purchase one.

·Consider where you will be primarily using your electric scooter – indoors or outdoors.  Many options in size exist that will allow you to find a perfect fit for your mobility needs.

·Think about the seat and whether it swivels and locks into position.  When the seat is locked into position, transferring is made safe and easy.  At the same time, leaving the seat unlocked allows you to swivel the seat making use of your lower body.  Having a seat that allows for both is desirable on your electric scooter.

·The handle should protect the throttle from being accidently bumped and should allow you to rest your hands on the handle while driving.  The drive control should allow you to use either your thumb or your fingers to drive your travel scooter.

·An automatic release on your electric scooter allows you to roll forward closer to a desk or table or backwards away from the same.

·An electric mobility scooter works for you if you have upper body strength and can sit with minimal support.  Lifting your arms/hands to a driving position helps with your breathing and posture.  You can increase your circulation by using your legs and feet to swivel the seat.

·An electric scooter does not require a van for transporting.  It will fit into a trunk or a hatchback.

·Use your Medicare dollars wisely.  First choose the best electric scooter for your needs and think about the cost of service.  Be sure to purchase equipment that fits you, your home, and your lifestyle.

·Platform width (including rear wheels) and the height of the seat from the floor are two measurements you should know for functionality of your mobility scooter.

·Seating on your mobility scooter is very important if you will be sitting there for more than four hours a day.  Make sure the cushion supports your legs and that your upper legs are at a 90-degree angle with your hips.

·Treaded rear tires are found on most electric scooters.  Users are requesting replacement tires because of the dirt and stones carried indoors with the treads.  Some things to consider regarding tread versus non-tread tires:  Treaded tires are wider, provide good traction on grass and snow, are non-marking and foam filled.  Non-treaded tires are easy to clean, do not hold dirt, rim does not mark furniture, non-marking, urethane rubber, and provide a softer ride on your mobility scooter.  Your needs will help you make this decision.
